Just a bit about me, Cristina Murano, the woman behind LUYC…
…after ten years of playing competitive soccer in Southern Ontario, I took a break to pursue an Undergraduate degree at York University and then a Master’s of Arts degree at Brock University, all the while participating in community organizing throughout Toronto and the Niagara Region. I recently completed my Ontario Graduate Certificate in Public Administration at Humber College, interned with the Toronto 2015: Pan Am / Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee and worked for the Government of Ontario.
During my twenties, I played soccer in recreational and competitive contexts (and continue to do so). I also discovered and began to play futsal, and started refereeing and coaching soccer in Downtown Toronto. Over the last few years I have designed and facilitated coaching sessions for adults and children. I am currently certified with the Ontario Soccer Association and working towards my Provincial B License.
I am a teacher at heart and love to create positive learning environments, sport focused or otherwise. Born and raised in Toronto, there are so many aspects of the city that I get excited about. For me, the depth of culture, music, food, ideas, politics, personalities, sport leagues, and art scenes is a constant inspiration. I, and LUYC, have been shaped by Toronto and the many people who have loved and sustained me.
